Season finally ends for Staten Island Little League: Great Kills loses in semi-finals

By BARRY LANK

Staten Island’s Little League team made it to the state championship. They made it to the regional semi-finals. But they’ll make it no further.

Pennsylvania, which had gone undefeated in the regionals, continued that streak against New York’s champions Friday, beating Great Kills 3-0. Pennsylvania’s Keystone Little League just got three runs in the second inning. But that’s all it took.

Great Kills had a nail-biting run this season, developing a reputation as a team that kept coming from behind. Even their entry into the regional semis was a cliff-hanger, tying for fourth place with the one team they had already beaten.

As for Great Kills, well, it’s not the way they wanted to end the season, but they got pretty damn far. They deserve a rest.
