$600,000 award for girl scalded by urn full of coffee when she was 10

A 12-year-old girl who had hot coffee dumped on her two years ago from a 40-cup commercial urn was awarded $600,000, her lawyer told the Staten Island Advance.

The Prince’s Bay girl was 10 years old and attending a Sweet 16 party when she tripped on the urn’s electrical cord, overturning the coffee and severely burning her legs.

The cord hung about a foot off the ground, with ample space between the wall and the table, the Advance said.

Some of her scars are permanent, her doctor told the court.

The girl’s mother sued the caterer, Mastrantonio Catering Inc. of Islip, Long Island.
