Police say they caught two men buying and selling more than a pound of marijuana right out on the open road, according to the Staten Island Advance.
Bajram Lleshi, 42, of Tottenville, allegedly handed a large bag of marijuana to Christopher Ledlum, 35, of South Beach, as the two stood on the corner of Cedar and Austin avenues at about 10 p.m. Saturday. Ledlum, in turn, is charged with handing back cash.
Police say an officer saw the whole thing.
When authorities moved in, the suspects were standing by a vehicle, with its trunk open. A law enforcement source told the Advance that Ledlum threw the drugs on the ground and tried to close the trunk. The source also said Lleshi had $8,000 cash on him when he was arrested.
Lleshi is charged with first- and third-degree criminal sale of marijuana, while both men are charged with second-, third-, fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, as well as unlawful possession of marijuana.
